The Bible often uses the image of a strong tower or fortress, a sanctuary or safe-house where people can be with God.
Christians are described as being like the stones of that safe-house: different shapes, sizes and colours; some more polished and prominent, others more rough and structural; but each of them an integral part of the same building.
Jesus is pictured as the cornerstone of that building, the key piece on which everything else depends. The Bible recognises that many people look at Jesus and reject Him as the foundation for their lives, but affirms that those who choose to trust in Him will never be dismayed. You must decide for yourself.
Our logo is a reference to these Biblical images that are taken from the following passages:
1 Peter 2:4-8
As you come to him, the living Stone — rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him — you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house … For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone” and “A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message — which is also what they were destined for.
The ‘Scripture’ referred to is the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament, specifically:
Isaiah 28:16
So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed.
Isaiah 8:13-14 (& Psalm 118:22)
The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread, and he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble
and a rock that makes them fall.
These passages are also quoted by Jesus in Matthew 21:42, Mark 12:10 and Luke 20:17, and by Jesus’ first followers in Acts 4:11 and Romans 9:33.
