A WELCOME FROM JERSEY BAPTIST CHURCH
As a building where the Church meets, we are situated in Vauxhall Street, St Helier. In fact JBC is actually made up of people from all over our beautiful island of Jersey here in the Channel Islands, as well those from other nations who are visiting Jersey for work or vacation.
As Christians, we are serious and excited about communicating Christ’s message to everyone! So allow me to briefly outline a few of the aims that are central to our church life.
At JBC we aim to be...
A worshipping church
We meet regularly to worship God the Father, and His Son – the risen Lord Jesus Christ, in the power of His Holy Spirit. As the family of God, which is all ONE in Christ Jesus, our style of worship intentionally mixes both traditional and contemporary elements, as we aim to please and enjoy God together.
A discipling church
’Discipleship’ may be an old fashioned word, but it accurately describes what it means to be a follower or "apprentice" of the Lord Jesus Christ. At JBC we do all we can to assist the discipling process – for the youngest to the oldest. As you will see throughout this site, there is regular preaching of God’s Living Word which is applied to everyday life; small groups get together in homes and work places to study the Bible and to pray; training programmes are held for practical teaching in a range of issues.
But of course, true discipleship is always more than theoretical head knowledge. We grow in the Christian faith as disciples as we serve Christ. JBC encourages each Christian to use their God-given gifts to serve Christ in daily settings - both inside and outside the church structures.
A witnessing church
Jesus commanded his disciples to be witnesses of all he had said and done, both locally and internationally (Acts 1:8). At JBC we are taking this command seriously, as we share the good news we ourselves have discovered. Some of our witnessing is organised through events such as Christianity Explored or with other churches in Jersey, and some happens very spontaneously on a personal basis as we look to witness for Christ, though word and caring action. We also actively support and pray for a number of folk who are witnessing for Jesus in various places around the world.
A relating church
God’s intention for us as Christians is to experience the joy and security of a vibrant community around us... which prioritises relationships over meetings. Because relationships are at the heart of the gospel – reconciling us with God and with each other, we therefore strongly encourage people to join a small group. Our desire for the JBC family is that we will experience a deepening quality of relational life, whereby each person finds their niche to serve God with their gifting, whilst living out Jesus’ prayer in John 17... "that we may be one."
