The CE Course - 2008

  • Designed by Rico Tice and the team at All Souls Church, Langham Place, London, over the past 10 years
  • In depth study of Christianity in a relaxed, informal and "cringe free" environment to provide you with an informed view
  • 8 week course based on a meal, talk, discussion / question time and home Bible Study
  • Using Mark’s Gospel

 

Assurances

  • You are not expected to have any prior knowledge of the Bible or Church
  • You will not be put on the spot
  • You will not be asked to read aloud
  • There will be no prayers or singing
  • You will not be expected to ask questions – feel free to participate in whatever way you feel comfortable

  • Starting 1900 on 10th March 2008

The Format

  • 7.00pm one course meal upstairs at Pizza Express, Halkett Place.
  • 7.45 – 8.30pm Talk
  • 8.30pm Active discussion / question time on evenings talk and other topical issues
  • 9.15 close but you are welcome to stay on for drinks / chat

The Programme

Week 1....

  • Course overview and why we are using this particular course
  • How can we be sure that the Bible we are studying - is in fact the inspired word of God?
  • Why are we studying Mark’s Gospel?
  • How do we know that God is out there?
  • The popular view of God, Jesus, Church and the Clergy
  • God’s plan for us

You will receive:

  • Papers on the above topics
  • A paperback New International Version Bible – a reliable and easy to understand translation
  • The "Christianity Explored" study guide

Week 2 ....

  • We get into Mark’s Gospel and examine "Who Jesus is?"

You will receive a paper on each week’s topic and when we have

Bible study feedback, suggested answers to the questions raised.

Week 3....

  • "Jesus – Why did He come?"

Week 4....

  • "Jesus – His crucifixion"

Week 5....

  • "Jesus – His gift of Grace"

Week 6....

  • "Jesus – His resurrection"

Week 7....

  • "What is a Christian?

At this session you receive a copy of Billy Graham’s book "Peace with God"

which is a great summary of all you have been studying

Week 8....

  • Choices, How do I become a Christian? - Wrap up

What happens if I miss one of the weeks?

  • You will receive the papers covering that weeks topic & Bible study

Objectives of the course

  • You should leave this course with an informed view of Christianity and not reject it out of ignorance
  • As well as answers to the frequently voiced questions:
    • Is God really out there? And if so what is He like? (Surveys show that 70% - 80% of the population believe that God is out there but they have no idea how to relate to him)
    • The meaning of our brief lives on earth?
    • Where do I belong in the whole scheme of things?
    • What happens when I die?
    • God is a loving God - surely everyone is going to heaven when they die?
    • Leading a good life must count for something and ensure you a place in Heaven?
    • What about pain and suffering?
    • Do I have to go to Church to be a Christian?
    • Creation versus Evolution?
    • Aren’t all religions roads to God?
    • Isn’t the devil make-believe?
    • The Bible appears to be a book of ancient writings – is it really relevant today
    • Are the stories in the Old Testament really true?
    • Sin - what does this really mean? Isn’t just a bit of innocent adult fun?
    • What do I have to do to become a Christian?
