New to Church?
We understand it can be daunting if you’ve never been to a church service before.
To make it easier, this page gives you some idea of what to expect and what a Jersey Baptist Church service is really like.
First, you need to get to the church. Have a look at our page entitled ‘how to find us’ to help with directions and gives some useful tips.
When you come into the building, someone will greet you at the front door and offer you a copy of the weekly news sheet. The news sheet gives details of church activities for the week ahead and important fellowship information.
Printed sheets with the words of the songs are available for those with sight difficulties, although words for the songs and any bible passages that are used in the service are projected onto 2 large screens at the front of the church for everyone to see.
If you want to listen using the ‘T loop’ setting one your hearing aid (fed from the sound system for those with hearing difficulties) you will find it works best if you sit towards the centre of the church downstairs.
Most morning services last about an hour or so or a little longer if communion is involved. Evening services last about the same time, although it can vary! If you need to leave during a service, no-one will complain if you slip out.
Please sit where you like. There is seating in padded chairs downstairs and on pews upstairs.
If you have children, they can either sit with you or join the other children, often at the front. During most Sunday morning services the younger children can leave for their own youth activities part way through the service. These activities are run by helpers who have been the subject of criminal record checks. If you would your children to go along, they will be made most welcome.
We also have a crèche facility for parents who would like to use it which has an audio / visual live feed from the body of the Church for parents who would like to ‘listen in’ too.
The service will normally consist of singing lead by our worship group, Bible reading(s), some prayers and an easy to listen to sermon. Maybe you would like to listen in to a service before coming along. Once you have registered on our web site you gain access to both MP3 recordings of the sermons or alternatively you can view live video streaming of our worship service. The streaming startsis from 1025 hours and 1825 hours each Sunday.
There will be an offering or collection, but don’t feel embarrassed to allow the collection bag to pass by without putting anything in it. Many Church members will do this as they contribute directly through their bank accounts and in other ways; so you won’t be the only one passing it on!
This collection is primarily for regular attenders who wish to give and support the Lord’s the work in Jersey and further afield.
Should you need access to our toilets facilities they can be found off to the right hand side as you enter the main foyer.
After the morning service there is usually a chance for a cup of tea, coffee or soft drink served in the entrance foyer of the church. A great time for folk at JBC to introduce themselves to you.
We hope this helps to explain what our Church is like. Please do come along, we’d love to see you! If you still have some concerns or unanswered questions about our Sunday worship, please contact our pastor David Prothero either by email or Tel +441534610442 and if you would like he can arrange to meet you or have someone show you around the church before the service at a time that suites you.
We look forward to seeing you and getting to know you. God bless….
